The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa (BGCSA) offers comprehensive after-school programs with a focus on six key areas: STEM, sports, education, careers, character and leadership, health and life skills, and arts and culture. The NGO’s vision is to “Inspire tomorrow, today,” while their mission is to “Support and enable young people to reach their full potential.”
Through their seven facility-based clubs and two high school-based clubs, BGCSA serves approximately 2,200 children annually. The organisation’s ultimate objective is to expand their reach to 10,000 children by 2030, helping to provide children with opportunities to succeed and reach their full potential.
The BGCSA has partnered with Blue Label Telecoms (BLTS) since 2015, and this partnership led to the building of the Protea Glen Club in 2016, which BLTS continues to support. This partnership has helped to expand the organisation’s reach and provide even more comprehensive programs to the children they serve.
BGCSA’s focus on providing opportunities for children to develop their skills and talents is key to their success. By providing a safe and supportive environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive, the organisation is helping to create a brighter future for the next generation of South Africans.
Since the inception of this partnership, Blue Label Telecoms has been a crucial financial contributor, providing approximately R2.5 million annually (totalling over R15 million). Moreover, the company has appointed two BLTS staff members, Archie Rantao and Antoinette Roberts, to the NGOs board. While Archie serves as the board chair, Antoinette leads their business development committee and sits on BGCSA’s HR committee. Throughout this partnership, BLTS has actively supported the NGOs efforts, including donating Easter Eggs, contributing to our Christmas Gifts Campaign, and making general donations like books for our clubs. Additionally, Monde Mkhwanazi, one of BLT’s staff members, participated in the 947 Ride for a Purpose to help raise funds for BGCSA.
Thanks to this partnership, BGCSA has expanded its reach and maintained its commitment to serve the community. Some of the organisation’s achievements include:
We have 7 Clubs operational in Pimville, Protea Glen, Bertrams, Alexandra, Vrededorp, Maraisburg, and Mofolo, with plans to expand to more sites throughout Johannesburg.
All kids who come to our Clubs sign up as Club Members. This symbolizes that they are a part of something bigger and they want to be a part of the Club.
One of our key objectives is to ensure each Club Member develops a meaningful and mentoring relationship with our Staff, who can ultimately guide them towards a great future.
